Lovers of Nigerian hip-hop music are in for an exciting moment as D’yard Entertainment has concluded plans to stage a Valentine gig tagged Rock D’yard. Organised as part of activities to mark this year’s Lovers Day, the all night groove billed for Friday, February 11, at D’yard, Lawanson Road, Surulere, Lagos, will feature two of Nigeria’s finest hip-hop acts, 9ice and Wande Coal live on stage.
Aside from both artistes, who have promised the best of their songs for their fans and some upcoming acts, who will have the opportunity of sharing the stage with the established artistes, the gig will also feature dance competitions and comedy by some notable comic merchants, who have been contracted to spice up the night.
In a recent chat with the CEO of D’Yard Gbolahan Lawanson, the London-trained lawyer informed that the event would also feature the public presentation of the finalists in the on-going D’Yard Music Talents show.
Aimed at grooming young talents for the already booming Nigerian music industry, the finalist are expected to slug it out at the grand finale on a yet to be disclosed date, with a brand new car and a recording contract for the eventual winner.
Speaking on the concert, Lawanson informed that the idea is to create an atmosphere for Nigerians to relax and savour good music in a serene atmosphere.
“Valentine is a season of love and we thought it wise to bring these two artistes for our customers and guests. It’s going to be a loaded night of music and entertainment and we’ve done everything possible to ensure a successful event.”
On the choice of the two artistes, Lawanson explained, “this is not the first time we are hosting a show of this magnitude. We’ve hosted notable artistes such as D’Banj, The Mo Hits crew, DJ Zeez and others. At D’Yard, quality is the watchword; if we can’t get it right, then we don’t do it. Two things informed the choice of Wande and 9ice for the show. Aside from the fact that both artistes commands large following, we actually conducted a survey among our customers and we have no option than to give them what they want.”
No doubt, 9ice and Wande Coal are known for their large fan base, but one wonders how the organisers intend to manage the crowd?
“In everything you do in life, planning is very important; before we signed the deal, we had concluded plans with regards to security and safety of guests. Since we started D’Yard, we have been staging big shows and we’ve been able to manage the crowd successfully. As I’m talking to you, our security committee include members of the Nigeria Police Force. I assure you, it’s going to be hitch free.”
Aside the concert, this is another opportunity for fun lovers to have a feel of the new D’Yard, which boasts of large open space.
“We are ready to host our guests because we are confident with what we have on ground. A lot of people, who have been here, are surprise with the quality of what we have here; our VIP and VVIP section are equal to what you can get anywhere on the Island. Our dream is to provide quality services to our customers, who were used to driving all the way to the Island just to relax.”
On the music talent show, Lawanson disclosed that the date for the grand finale would be made public soon.
“When we came up with the idea of staging a music talent show, many people didn’t take us serious. But today, with or without sponsors, we’ve completed the preliminary stages and we will be presenting the finalists during the concert. It has not been easy trimming down the number from the hundreds to what we have now, but it has also been an interesting experience for us. The truth is, Nigeria is blessed with raw talents; all we need do is harness them. At D’Yard, we are concern with talent development and we are doing everything possible to make meaningful contributions towards that.”
Ahead of Rock D’Yard concert, D’Yard recently staged a special party to unveil artistes for the show. Staged at the VIP section of the hangout, the night of fun attracted notable entertainment personalities including 9ice, Ernest Obi and a host of others who grooved the party till the early hours of the following day.
