Adeola Quits PAC, Submits ACN Nomination Form

Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Monday sealed the Nuhu Ribadu/Fola Adeola candidature for the presidential election as reported by THISDAY on Sunday, substituting the name of Dr. Sunny Ugochukwu with Adeola’s name as the running mate on deadline day.

Also, because of his new challenge as the ACN running mate, Adeola Monday resigned his appointment as a member on the Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC) headed by Lt. Gen. T.Y Danjuma (rtd). His resignation took immediate effect.

THISDAY learnt Monday night that the former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) accepted to pair with Ribadu at the weekend and immediately, proceeded to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja, where he perfected and turned in the necessary documentation required for his nomination.

Sources in ACN confirmed that all issues pertaining to the Ribadu-Adeola ticket had been resolved as there was nothing left to chance in ensuring that the idea flies without any inhibition within the party hierarchy.

A senior official of the party said the “striking similarity” between the Chief MKO Abiola-Babagana Kingibe ticket and the Ribadu-Adeola initiative “is worth celebrating”.

According to the party source, two major issues confront development in the country: economy and corruption.

He said it is impossible to improve the economy without battling corruption because the two factors aid each other in the growth and development of any society. The choice of Ribadu, an anti-corruption Czar, and Adeola, an economic guru, would sell beyond even what the party envisages for now.

“It’s a done deal. All issues have been resolved and I can tell you, it’s the best ticket so far presented for the presidential election in April.

“Adeola, you can bet, understands the economy and has a very rich background. So, paired with Ribadu, can you see now that the ticket is unbeatable?” the party stalwart said.

When contacted Monday night, Adeola, who confirmed the development, said his resignation of the presidential appointment had become imperative if he must show to be of decent behaviour.

Besides, he said, he could not be a presidential running mate on the platform of ACN, an opposition party, and still run against President Goodluck Jonathan who appointed him into the committee.

“It is not about party or government. It is a decision that portrays one as being decent. I cannot be seen as running against the man who appointed me into his advisory committee and still retain that appointment. The proper thing for me to do is resign,” Adeola said.
