Jonathan ‘Scared’ Of Independent Television Debates, Ribadu Campaign Says

The Nuhu Ribadu presidential campaign has challenged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket of Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo to submit itself to public election debates without preconditions.

Observing that the PDP presidential ticket has expressed a preference only for televised debates under the aegis of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), the ACN campaign said in a statement that the PDP approach “simply shows that either the duo have nothing concrete to sell to Nigerians or are afraid they cannot defend their actions in office for the past ten months.”

Said the ACN campaign, “It is common knowledge that the BON is mostly populated by government employees, and as such the presidency will find a way of running the entire debate from the back door.”

In the statement, signed by Ibrahim Modibbo, the Director of Media and Communications of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, the campaign castigated the attitude of the PDP presidential candidate.  “Anyone that is ready to offer honest service should not be scared of facing his opponents or indeed his people in a fair and open manner,” it said.

“That is not too much to ask of a man who is asking to lead the largest collection of black people with a population of 150 million people.”
