A source in Enugu has sent Naija News Desk two photographs of Divisional Police Officer Sam Chukwu who is on the run after prosecutors fingered him in the kidnap of Lotachukwu Ezeudu, a second-year accountancy student at the University of Nigeria (Enugu campus).

A police source in Enugu confirmed to us that the two pictures are those of Mr. Chukwu, who escaped from his home and went underground as officers from the Enugu State police command sought his arrest.

“We will declare DPO Chukwu wanted and publish his photographs in the newspapers as soon as our ogas in Abuja give us the go-ahead,” said a source in the Enugu police command.

A prosecutor in Enugu said it was important to avoid further delay in declaring the man wanted. “Once his photograph appears in publications as a wanted man, then members of the public who know where he is hiding will be encouraged to give that information,” said the prosecutor, adding, “the man is highly dangerous.”

The trial of several suspects held in connection with the September 26, 2009 kidnap and disappearance of Mr. Lota Ezeudu is scheduled to hold on March 14 in Enugu.

Sam Chukwu’s son, Nnaemeka Chukwu, as well as a former police officer, Ernest Okeke, are among suspects being held in prison custody in Enugu in connection with the kidnap case.

Apart from Mr. Sam Chukwu, two other suspects, Desmond Chinwuba and Uche Moses Amajor, are also in hiding. Mr. Chinwuba, also a sacked police officer, as well as Mr. Ernest Okeke were undergoing trial in a prior kidnap and armed robbery case when they reportedly conspired with the suspended DPO, his son, Mr. Amajor and others to kidnap Lota Ezeudu. Uche Moses Amajor’s father owns Prosper Hotel in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. Police sources told Naija News Desk that Lota Ezeudu was kept for a few days in a room at the hotel before he was moved to a different location.

A prosecutor told us that his team strongly believes that Uche Moses Amajor’s parents had arranged for their son’s hiding place. “Unless they produce their son, we may have no option than to try them as accomplices in a suspect’s scheme to evade prosecution,” he said.

Naija News Desk encourages any reader with information on the whereabouts of Sam Chukwu, Desmond Chinwuba and Uche Moses Amajor to send us a confidential tip-off.
