Bayelsa: S/South govs fail to save Sylva.

BY DANIEL IDONOR, Abuja.

For the second time in a week, attempt by the South-South governors to lobby for the clearance of the embattled Governor Timipire Sylva of Bayelsa State by the People Democratic Party, PDP, failed again, as their meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday ended in deadlock.
Efforts by the South South Governors to save Sylva, “considered by them as one of their own” yielded no positive result, despite a strong plea to President Jonathan.
Vanguard learn t that the governors had initiated the move codenamed, “Operation Sylva must run”, following an informed grand plan by powerful group to stop the governor from a rerun.
As a result, the governors decided to mount pressure on the President to prevail on the group to support Sylva, through a meeting which yielded no result earlier.
But, yesterday, undaunted by the first failure, Akwa Ibom’s Godswill Akpabio, Cross River’s Liyel Imoke and Rivers’ Rotimi Amaechi having waited for several hours to see President Jonathan on matter, could not strike a favourable deal for their colleagues.
Their second attempt plea for a soft landing for Sylva in the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primaries in Bayelsa State, could not sway the President.
The governors came out from the meeting held at the First Lady’s wing of the presidential villa wearing long faces, an indication that all was not well, as they were full of disappointments.
When accosted by curious State House correspondents to speak on the outcome of the meeting, all the governors kept mute and refused to comment.
But persisted journalists followed them into their waiting cars, when Sylva turned and asked why he was being trailed with the microphones, saying “why are you following me with microphone now? I don’t want to talk!”
All the governors entered into the SUV belonging to Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who personally drove them to an unknown destination.
Already the PDP leadership have insisted the embattled governor has not been cleared for the party primaries.
On thursday night, efforts by PDP governors and legislators locked in a meeting with President Jonathan to push their support for Governor Sylva had also failed.
