Minister commends Nigerian naval officers in U.S.

The Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, has commended officers and personnel of the Nigerian Navy for their discipline, hard work and high sense of dedication to duty while in the U.S.


Obada spoke at a ceremony to inaugurate the sailing of the U.S. warship donated to the Nigerian Navy from the Island in Alameda to Lagos, Nigeria.

Let me state here that Nigeria is proud of you and l wish you fare wings as you navigate through the Pacific
and Atlantic Oceans to Nigeria,'' she said.

The minister also praised the U.S. Government for the kind gesture and for doing everything possible to ensure that the transfer of the ship was actualised.

She added that the ship would be of tremendous assistance to the Nigerian government, particularly to enhance the country's maritime capability in curbing the threats and insecurity in the country's waters.

Obada stated that threat of insecurity at the nation's waters was undermining the national stability and
development, while lauding the efforts of the U.S. Government and its Coast Guard to ensure that Nigeria
effectively policed its waters.

She added that the ship would further cement the bilateral relations between Nigeria and the U.S.
