The rioting broke out following the death of an Hausa youth in Katshit township in Zango Kataf local government.
Residents in Kafanchan told Naija News Desk that the crisis today was a spill-over from Zango-Kataf, where some youths, who had allegedly committed arson during the April election crisis, were sighted. One of them was reportedly killed and dumped near a bush path.
Zango Kataf LGA shares boundaries with Jamal LGA ,where Kafanchan is located. The crisis was soon to take a religious dimension as youths went berserk killing and burning houses. A local clinic and the home of a former local government chairman was burnt in the process.
An eye witness said that the police stationed in the area did nothing to prevent the attacks on innocent civilians.
