US denies it predicts Nigeria will break up by 2015.

The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terence McCulley, has denied that his country predicted the break-up of Nigeria in 2015.
McCulley, who denied the report while addressing reporters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday said Nigeria needs a holistic approach to tackle the Boko Haram menace and other related challenges confronting the country.
He said the report must have emanated from a private body in his country, not a government official.
McCulley stated that the U.S considers Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa.
He also added that years of robust partnership between the two countries have helped them discover the great potentials and resources which Nigeria possesses, pointing out that projects undertaken by the country’s agency for international development (USAID) in Nigeria were borne out of the need to help the country leverage on its resources and potentials.
He said: “No U.S government official has predicted that Nigeria will break up in 2015. It must have come from a private agency. The U.S considers Nigeria as a strategic partner in the continent.
“We believe that Nigeria has enormous potentials and resources. We want Nigeria to succeed and our programmes are designed to assist the country to achieve its goals. USAID programmes are geared towards that. We are optimistic about Nigeria’s future,” the American envoy added.
He stated that one of the ways Nigeria can attain development is to create enabling environment for its citizens so that they can create wealth.
He pointed out that Nigerians are dynamic and hardworking people who only need an enabling environment to bring out the best in them.
