Alhaji M.D. Abubakar's Appointment As IGP, A Catastrophe.

I wish to vehemently register my dissatisfaction and that of majority of Nigerians especially the Christians/southerners over the appointment of Alhaji M.D. Abubakar as the acting Inspector General of Police to relieve the immediate past Inspector General of Police - Alhaji Hafiz Ringim.
MD Abubakar
The antecedents of Alhaji M.D. Abubakar in the force which speaks for itself, is lamentable and nothing to write home about, following the role played by this ardent fanatic/religious extremist in 2001, during the Jos crisis in Plateau State, who used the cover of the force to unleash mayhem on innocent Christians/non Muslims and southerners in Plateau State.
I wish to draw the attention of all Nigerians to the Justice Niki Tobi Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the bloody killing and wanton destruction of lives and properties in Plateau State in 2001.
In the commission’s statement, Alhaji M.D. Abubakar was grossly indicted for his inestimable role and involvement during the Jos crisis, thus, the commission advised Alhaji M.D. Abubakar to honourably retire from the force, and in event of his refusal to buy the option of retirement, he should be dismissed from the force, and this is the man the federal Government feels, is most fit for the office of the number one police officer in the country at this critical moment of rampant bomb blast by Boko Haram sect of which M.D Abubakar, following his fanatical activities, might be connected with this havoc.
Considering this analysis, one begins to wonder why must a man who was so much indicted for religious fanaticism/extremism by a commission headed by such a reputable and highly respected judge of the supreme court – Justice Niki Tobi, be given such ovation today and appointed the Inspector General of Police, especially now that the activities of this deadly sect – Boko Haram is on its peak. Nigeria, where is your conscience, when callous and unpatriotic characters are allowed to have their ways unpunished despite atrocities committed by them.
Alhaji Zakari Biu who arranged the escape of a very high profile criminal – Kabiru Sokoto, the master minder of the 25th December, 2011 Madalla Bomb blast that claimed the lives of many Nigerians, was brought back to the force through the aids of his likes in Nigeria Police, after suffering suspensions from the force for the unpatriotic activities he perpetrated, and this same way, Alhaji M. D. Abubakar who is an apostle of Boko Haram is imposed on Nigerians as the Inspector General of Police, not minding his antecedents.
The Police Service Commission claims that, there is no record at the disposal of the commission that queries the activities of M.D. Abubakar especially the report of Justice Niki Tobi Commission of Enquiry of 2001 over Jos crisis that out rightly indicted Alhaji M. D. Abubakar’s nefarious involvement. How can they, it is all Nigerian factor.
It is important to note that, Alhaji M. D. Abubakar was the wife of former Inspector General of Police – Alhaji Ibrahim Comassie in gay marriage affair. It was Ibrahim Comassie that recommended Alhaji M.A.K. Smith to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the post of Inspector General of Police.
M.A.K. Smith in an effort for him not to betray his boss Comassie was left with no option but to sweep under the carpet all antagonizing reports against his boss gay wife – Alhaji M. D. Abubakar including the Justice Niki Tobi Judicial Commission of Enquiry’s report. It also worth saying that, the appointment of Alhaji M. D. Abubakar as the Inspector of Police at this critical moment of Nigeria history is the most wrong decision ever made by the presidency.
It is rather unfortunate that the Police service Commission could not lay hands on this all important report, and based on this perception, Alhaji M.D. Abubakar was recommended to the president as having un-queried service records, hence, his appointment as acting Inspector General of Police.
Now that, the issue of Alhaji M. D. Abubakar’s indictment in the Justice Niki Tobi’s Judicial Commission of Enquiry of 2001, and its subsequent option of either retirement or dismissal from the force is at the domain of every Nigerian; it is now within the ample prerogative of the presidency to call for this report to enable the issue of appointing unpatriotic characters to head sensitive security position be cleared once and for all. In my opinion, keeping M. D. Abubakar as the Nation’s Inspector General of Police is like sitting in keg of gun powder which may explode at any moment.
Alhaji M. D. Abubakar was fingered to be the grand sponsor of the bomb attack at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, sometime in 2011, which claimed the lives of poor policemen and properties worth millions of naira destroyed in the process, with the ulterior motive of ridiculing the administration of the erstwhile Inspector General of Police – Alhaji Hafiz Ringim.
He was also alleged to have connection with the car bomb blast at Murtala Mohammed International, Airport, Lagos, when he was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, at the Airport Police Command, that resulted to the death of Dr. Sola Omatsola – the chief security officer Murtala Mohammed International Airport, during the Abacha’s regime.
Alhaji M. D. Abubakar was supposed to be scolded, so to serve as deterrent to others and not to be applauded.
Conclusively, the appointment of Alhaji M. D. Abubakar, an highly religious fanatic/extremist as the Inspector General of Police at this turbulent moment, does not go down well with majority of Nigerians; especially the Christians/southerners who may not have confidence and expected protection in the hands of M. D. Abubakar. Time has come when Christians and southerners will have to carry their destiny in their hands.
May God save Nigeria.
