Chairman of the CPC reacts to calls to remove the EFCC boss and replace her with a retired judge
The National Chairman of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Tony Momoh, has urged critics of the Chairman of Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC), Farida Waziri, to leave her alone to do her job.
“The person there is a qualified lawyer, a retired police officer and there is nothing wrong with her; people should allow her to do her job,” he said.
Momoh statement follows agitation for the anti-crime commission to be headed by a retired judge.
“One’s qualification as a retired justice does not mean that such a person has integrity,” he said. “People are just playing politics with EFCC. And why do you think that someone that has qualification either as a judge or a soldier or any other person automatically means integrity?
If people of integrity are to be looked for to head such a place; was Nuhu Ribadu not there before? Did he not deal with many people? This Waziri, is she not trying? But the fact is the people who are complaining are the ones who don’t want anybody to be tried.”
He argued that there had been cases where “some of our attorney generals were accused of bribery and corruption”.
