5 firms bid for Lagos-Badagry road 2nd Phase construction.

LAGOS — LAGOS State Government has received interest from five construction companies bidding for the second phase of the ongoing expansion of Lagos-Badagry expressway.
The project covers Mazamaza in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area to Okokomaiko-Agbara in Iba Local Government Area of the state.
The companies, according to the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, are Messrs. Julius Berger Nig Plc, Moreno-Marina–Lagoon Plc, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company Nig. Ltd, Salini Nig. Ltd, and CGGC Global Projects Nig. Ltd.
The state government said the bids, which opened yesterday at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, in the presence of representatives of the companies, were in compliance with international best practices.
The Commissioner said government had rescheduled the tranches to have Lot 2A and 2B covering Mazamza to Okokomaiko and from Okokomaiko to Agbara in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, LCDA, respectively.
He stated further that the bids would be evaluated by the board which would make its recommendation known to the state executive council and state governor for further deliberation and award.
It will be recalled that the state government had commenced the expansion of the road as a strategic development that will open the West African market to Nigerian business and also ensure the take off the axis designed as the state’s tourism corridor. It also reflects the change in the population density of the area.
The contract for the Lot 1 of the project was awarded in March 2009 to Messers Julius Berger Nig Plc.
