Buhari Rejects Political Violence, Calls It “Dastardly Act”

Muhammadu Buhari, who provided the principal challenge to Goodluck Jonathan in Saturday’s presidential election, has dissociated himself and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) from the violence in parts of the country, describing it as a “sad, unfortunate and totally unwarranted development.”

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, he said the “dastardly act” was not initiated by the party’s supporters and could not, therefore, be supported by the party. “I must emphasize that this is purely a political matter, and it should not in any way be turned into an ethnic, religious or regional one,” the general said.
