President Zuma hails Nigeria’s elections, says they’ll be a model for other African countries.

President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has joined other world leaders in commending Nigeria’s recently concluded 2011 general elections, saying in a congratulatory letter to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Tuesday, May 10, that the elections will serve as a model for other African countries.

“I would like to commend the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the credible and peaceful manner in which these elections were conducted.

“I am confident, Your Excellency, that these elections will serve as a model of political maturity for future elections on the continent,” President Zuma wrote.

The South African President praised the “sterling work” carried out by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all other institutions and persons who contributed to the success of the elections.

“Your Excellency, I look forward to working with you to further strengthen bilateral ties between our two countries as well as towards the promotion of the interests of our continent and the consolidation of the African Agenda,” President Zuma wrote.

He wished President Jonathan a successful term of office and prosperity for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
